Shopify fulfilment in the UK: choosing a provider

FULFILMENT SCOUT · PRACTICAL GUIDES

A Shopify connection is only useful if it reflects the way your store operates. Before choosing a UK fulfilment provider, test the journey from a paid order to delivery tracking, including the exceptions that happen in your business.

Make your next fulfilment decision with a clearer brief.

Use the checks below to compare what providers will actually do for your business.

01

Map what should enter the warehouse queue

Explain whether orders need payment, fraud review or a manual release before dispatch. Agree what happens to cancelled orders and address changes after import. Ask the provider to demonstrate the exact point at which an order can no longer be changed, and how your customer service team can see that status.

02

Treat stock as a shared process

Decide which system controls the stock quantity available for sale. Check the handling of incoming stock, reserved units, damaged goods and returns awaiting inspection. If you use several locations, ask how inventory and order routing are separated. Test what happens when one item is unavailable rather than assuming an entire order will wait.

03

Test bundles, subscriptions and split orders

A bundle can be a prebuilt physical SKU or a set of component products. Give the provider examples of both and check how each is picked and charged. For subscriptions, confirm that each released order carries the correct products and inserts. Agree when splitting an order is permitted, because extra parcels can change delivery costs.

04

Run a small acceptance test

Create a normal order, a multi-item order, a cancelled order, an address change and an out-of-stock order. Include a return if the integration supports one. Check inventory, warehouse status, tracking and customer notifications on both sides. Keep screenshots and agree who fixes any mismatch before the main stock move.

05

Prepare a useful enquiry

Share your store URL, apps that affect order handling, active SKU count, monthly volume, destination split and launch date. Shopify supports several fulfilment approaches; a provider should explain the specific connection they propose. Consult Shopify’s own fulfilment documentation for platform options, then verify the proposed workflow with the provider.
